“In the long run, what counts is how the next generation thinks. How far new ideas permeate culture is not measured just by attitude change during one generation, but by what is taken for granted in the next.”

Helen Haste, page 149 in The Sexual Metaphor: Men, Women, and the Thinking that Makes the Difference (Cambridge, MA: Harvard University Press, 1994, ISBN 0-674-80282-9) HT to Brad Sargent.

Somewhere Reg McNeal suggests that to change a culture you must change the conversation. Hmm.. if this means we adopt a new narrative, I’m in. But the culture will never change until our practices change, and I think this is what McNeal is getting at in Missional Renaissance by pushing for a different scorecard.

Clay Shirky in Us Now documentary, quote:

“The revolution doesn’t happen when society adopts new tools; it happens when society adopts new behaviors.”
