Olympic.. sad
The 2010 games are nearly upon us. At an estimated cost of 2.5 billion dollars for BC, the security bill alone will be one billion.
Given the economic realities here in BC, given the impact on the most vulnerable people, given the tax bill spread over all BC while the benefits are for Vancouver, given the years it will take to pay this debt… I think it’s time to find a permanent home for the games or scale them back.
One creative brother has done something different. He has created a liturgical “stations of the cost.” John Santic writes that “It is a project designed to help bring awareness to the serious social, economic, and ecological issues surrounding the olympic games. .. It is intended to help people identify with the suffering and understand some of the powers at work that perpetuate it.”
